compared to outlook

How does windows mail compare to outlook. I've downloaded vista but haven't installed it yet. Will the mail component be a good replacement for outlook, or will outlook still be the one to go with, for all those extra features that I like and use. Thanks. Diana

It's like comparing Outlook Express and Outlook: one's free and you get what you pay for.

You dont want to use windows mail in plain english it sucks and does not compare to outlook at all. The other problem is finding the incoming and outgoing server information for different Email providers. I have comcast and I could not find the right settings for a long time. I got it to work and then I turned it off and went back to outlook 2007.

Each to his own. Some think Outlook sucks.

WinMail has some new features over that of OE. Phishing and junk filters, etc.

Windows Mail doesn't suck, it's just an unfinished beta. For your average user, OE and now Windows Mail serves their purpose. It is free. Although, many would argue that it really isn't- the "cost" is figured into the price of the OS, not much is really ever "free".
For me, I have used Outlook for so long and really believe it to be superior to any other product. If Outlook had newsgroup capability, I would probably know nothing about OE or Windows Mail. After all these years of using Outlook, I still do not understand why it doesn't have newsgroup capabilities. As powerful as it is, I don't see the logic in it. Especially now that Outlook 2007 has built in RSS feeds. How hard could it be to add a newsgroup function to Outlook? The only reason I can see is that many believe newsgroups are a dinosaur and are on the way out. I don't know, but, it has never made sense to me.

We seem to be using this old dinosaur alot. I wouldn't look for it to die just because RSS are the lastest fad.

So far I like Win Mail better than Outlook (which I've used forever). The message rules and views are better. Searches from the Start menu and elsewhere can find messages in Win Mail. But, it's all a matter of taste on things like this.
